R.E.

'Living and Growing as the People of God' is the curriculum strategy for Religious Education in the diocese of Birmingham.

The R.E. strategy provides a curriculum that addresses pupils' intellect, hearts and imagination. It covers a systematic study of the Catholic faith and life and makes learning about our faith lively, interactive and relevant.

It's content also provides the foundations for a partnership between school, home and parish, a partnership that lies at the centre of Catholic Education.

There are numerous opportunities for cross-curricular activities that link with and often stem from R.E. lessons. We use the internet, we visit places of worship and we invite people to speak about their faith.

At Our Lady of Grace, RE is not simply one subject amongst many, but the foundation of all that is achieved in school.

See our Long Term Plan for details of how we teach R.E. across the school.

Schools in England and Wales must ensure that religious education is provided as part of the school’s basic curriculum. In Catholic schools, this is done in accordance with the teachings, doctrines, discipline and norms of the Catholic Church. Academies in England are required by their funding agreement and Articles of Association to comply with similar requirements. Similarly, in state-funded schools, England and Wales are required by law to take part in an act of collective worship on each school day. In Catholic schools, this is done in accordance with the rites, practices, disciplines and liturgical norms of the Catholic Church. Parents should contact the Principal in the first instance if they are considering withdrawing their child from Religious Education and/or Collective Worship.
