Our Lady of Grace

Our Lady of Grace

The first meaning of Our Lady of Grace refers to her own holiness. From very early on, Mary was invoked as the uniquely blessed one and, as the Mother of Mercy she is also the one who intercedes for us with God to obtain his grace. Mary is given honour in the Christian faith. She is especially honoured as "the Mother of God" in the Catholic Church. Often, many people who pray to her will use the prayer “Hail Mary”, which is commonly used within our school.

The beliefs about Mary are heavily based on the Bible, with the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Luke stating that Mary was a young woman who was engaged to be married to a man called Joseph. The Gospel of Luke says that the angel Gabriel came to Mary to tell her that she would give birth to a son. The angel told Mary that she should call her son Jesus. The angel also said that Jesus would save people from their sins.

Our Parish Priest Father Julian was instrumental in the choice of our school-name “Our Lady of Grace” and had great input into both our motto and the design for our school wear. This was chosen because of his continual devotion to Our Lady within the Parish.
